Laurence Harold Moran
March 2, 1939 - Dec. 28, 2017
Laurence Moran was known in the Chicago voiceover community as "The Funny Voice Man". Larry was born in Chicago to the late Alice & Harold Moran. He discovered his ability and love for doing character voices while working for several tradeshow production companies. For several years, he was a voice for puppets on the Sunday morning television program, The Magic Door. His voiceover talents were heard on hundreds of commercials ranging from cartoon-type characters such as a Bug's Bunny, Cap'n Crunch, to serious narrations concerning healthcare products and education. He was known for creating the McDonald's character "Monopoly Man". Larry was a proficient cello player and at one time played with several musical groups, including the Oak Park Symphony Orchestra. In 1978, Larry, along with his former wife, Janet, and several actors from the Oak Park Village Players performed in several small towns in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky. Larry was a prolific writer who wrote and directed numerous children's music appreciation programs for Moody radio, as well as short stories for magazines. He donated time to the Pacific Garden Mission's program Unshackled. He was a member of the Screen Actors Guild and America Federation of Radio and Television Artists. Larry worked in the Chicago area performing for almost fifty years, before retiring to New Buffalo, MI. Larry is survived by his children Nancy Mclaughlin (Joel Schwartz) of Chicago, Erika Moran (Jesse Miller) of Cleveland, Ohio, Mark Shaughnessy of Phoenix, AZ, Todd Shaughnessy of West Chicago, Colin (Rita) Shaughnessy of McLean, VA and Matthew (Blanca) Moran of Melbourne, FL and long-time friend, Catherine Duffy of New Buffalo, MI. He was a proud "Papa Larry" to his 12 grandchildren Lauren Mclaughlin; Zack, Hayden, and Delaney Fogle; Daniel, Ken, and Teague Shaughnessy; Aidan and Ariona Shaughnessy; Amanda, Sean, and Matthew Moran and the recent addition of a great grandchild, Christian Quinn. He was preceded in death by his brother Ronald Kovalic. |
